Dairy
Denninger’s supports local Ontario dairy farms.
Hewitt’s - Hagersville
Hewitt’s is proud to be one of Ontario’s oldest family-owned and operated dairies.
In 1887, their founder, James Hewitt, began delivering milk to the people of Hagersville. All the milk was processed and produced at the Hewitt family farm until 1950. At that time, the dairy cattle were sold and a new plant was built in Hagersville, where they are still located.
All of the milk they purchase for their operations comes from local Ontario producers, ensuring that when you choose Hewitt’s, it comes to you “fresh from a country dairy.”
Available at Denninger’s: Wide selection of milk and chocolate milk, cream, buttermilk, yogurt, ice cream and goat’s milk
Saugeen Country Dairy – Markdale
Since the fall of 1994, Saugeen has been making organic yogurt with milk from their own grass-fed cows, who are central to the dairy. Saugeen believes that yogurt made from pure milk straight from the cow is the best, rather than powdered milk products which larger yogurt producers use. The shorter the list of ingredients, the more natural and better-tasting the end product will be.
They do not homogenize the milk. Cream will rise to the top in milk that is not homogenized. Non-homogenized milk products are easier to digest. Because they do not homogenize the milk there is often a thin layer of cream on the top of the yogurt, which disappears quickly when you stir in your fruit of choice.
The care that goes into the farm, the cows and their yogurt shows when you taste the incomparably creamy heaven that is Saugeen Country Dairy yogurt.
Skotidakis Goat Farm – St Eugene
Yogurt
Skotidakis Strained Yogurt is authentic Greek yogurt made from cows’ and goats’ milk. Traditional methods are used so that the end result is a thick strained yogurt that has a smooth, rich, velvety texture with a deliciously creamy taste. North American yogurt has a gelatinous texture or watery limpness that this smooth Greek yogurt does not. Ideal for use in Greek recipes.
Available: Plain, with Honey, with Strawberry Preserves, with Blueberry Preserves.
Tzatziki
Of Greek origin, Skotidakis Tzatziki is a yogurt-based sauce seasoned with cucumber and garlic. It can be served as an appetizer with pita bread, or as an excellent accompaniment for lamb, roasted pork, seafood, and grilled meats like kebabs. For a fresh, zesty taste, try it as salad dressing or a vegetable dip. Skotidakis Tzatziki is made with probiotic yogurt that contains an active culture.
M-C Dairy Kefir – Etobicoke
This certified kosher Kefir was originally made from camel’s milk from high in the Caucasus. At M-C Dairy, it is made from cow’s milk. Kefir is reminiscent in both taste and texture of liquid yogurt, but is easier to digest and contains more beneficial bacteria.
Denninger’s carries a variety of flavoured kefirs.
