Spreewaldhof Gherkins and Cornichons Exclusive to Denninger’s

Spreewaldhof Spreelinge are a Denninger's customer favourite. Unfermented pickles are preserved by high temperatures when they are shortly boiled in salt water and vinegar. Commercially produced unfermented pickles are often not boiled, but undergo a pasteurization process.

Because the preservation of the pickle does not depend on the amount of acid, unfermented pickles are not as sour as fermented pickles. Only natural ingredients are used for the Spreelinge including fresh dill, and onions processed according to the original recipe from the Spreewaldhof. Now protected with the red quality seal “Original Spreewald Gherkins” which certifies that their gherkins are cultivated and processed in the Spreewald, a protected geographical indication under the EU.

Stollenwerk Cornichons Exclusive to Denninger’s

The gherkins contained in Stollenwerk's pickle line originate from the protected Spreewald region. These mild-tasting pickles come in a variety of flavours, one or two of which are likely to find their way regularly onto your pickle tray.

Maille Cornichons are all handpicked and selected carefully for their optimum crispness and flavor. Cornichons are small and crunchy sour gherkins as opposed to big and spongy sweet gherkins that are more common in North America.

Strub’s Pickles Local to Hamilton

In a small Hamilton, Ontario kitchen, Sophie and Michael Strub began a pickle making tradition that is proudly carried on today by third and fourth generation pickle makers using the same family recipes. Danish pickled cucumbers are thinly sliced, mixed with salt. Afterwards they are placed in a jar with a sour-sweet brine of vinegar, sugar, dill and seeds. The resulting pickles are softer than traditional pickles and sweeter.
