Saugeen Country Dairy
At Saugeen Country Dairy, we farm about 560 acres of rolling land between the towns of Durham and Markdale, Ontario.
We have been farming organically since 1985 and are certified by the Bio-Dynamic Society of Ontario.
In 1994 we built a small dairy plant on our farm where we make yogurt from the milk of our cows.
On our farm we keep a herd of about 50 milking Holsteins, one or two breeding bulls and about 50 young female stock and heifers.
The cows are milked and fed in a large, timber frame bank barn.
In the winter we feed them hay in the barn and they go out for exercise and fresh air every day.
The rest of the year they are out on pasture to eat grass.
Throughout the year, they also get mixed grains (oats, barley, wheat and corn).

Because the cows are fed with crops grown on our fields, we can guarantee a 100% organic product.
To offer the most wholesome yogurt possible, we do not homogenize the milk. We use lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus in our culture. And as you know, the shorter the list of ingredients, the more natural and better tasting the yogurt will be.
We want to provide consumers with the opportunity to buy a local, healthy and wholesome food. And at the same time support farming practices which respect the needs of the land, animals and humans.
